Tangerine Sky

Description

It started as a dare to just randomly draw a raptor and turned into a two month project where I tried out different techniques. The trees, raptor, rocks and ground all have a dot effect over the original coloring. Much of the piece did use the Colorless Blender to create highlight spots and generally blend much of the sky and water.

Drawn on Bristol Board with Prismacolor markers and Microns for the outline.

Ok so I don't have a membership so I can't do that 'Write a Critique' thingy, but fer you Steph if you want more then 'nice pic' I'll see what I can do for ya... gah makin me work here...

That 'inner' toe on either foot of the raptor looks a bit odd sortta makes me think of a stereotypical English lady with her pinky up while drinking tea. I guess it was on purpose since you've done it with both, but it it still a bit odd looking.

Is the water standing still I suppose? I see some indications that it is moving, but then it is missing the white sort of froth it usually tends to get when it hits rocks and the like. I'm just used to it being there even if it is only a very little bit because the water is slow.

Your shadows look a bit odd over the whole thing. The colours appear to make it sunset or sunrise which is directly behind the raptor/trees, but then you have the shadows on the trees that make it look like the sun is coming from the left. Also if the sun is up where is the 'shine' on the water? I see where there are shadows on the rocks, but no evidence of where the sun it hitting the water itself. The Raptor also seems to have a an upper left light source except for the fact that his chest isn't shadowed.

On the trees I know yer trying to show shadow or depth not sure which with the various coloured greens of the leaves, but the top colour seems a bit I guess abrupt. The others sort of faded, but the front ones almost look like the have maybe been given a third sun angle and have the light directly on them brightening them up or something to that effect.

As for the 'dot effect' which I'm going to guess is what you were really asking about >.> I rather like what you did with it over all. It gives things another layer of depth and colour that makes them look good. I'm not sure if I like it on the rocks though it does give them texture, but well maybe if it was made 'bigger' for them? I'm not sure it just doesn't seem quite right them for some reason to me.

Either way can I just say love the pic and call it a day now ;)
